"We aren't content to just be a legacy.
Our legacy is too serious not to continue."

Rod Marshall

ABCH PRESIDENT/CEO // Birmingham's first counselor, Rod forged the trail that Pathways Professional Counseling would follow through its inception and into its current state. In 2012, Paul Miller retired and Rod was elected by the board as President/CEO. Under his leadership, the ministry continues to expand and diversify as programs grow. Directors have been brought in to oversee the areas of finance and communications, roles have been added in development in multiple locations, a new Family Care home in Mobile will break ground in 2016, and Pathways has grown to over 40 locations statewide.

Over the last decade, ABCH has seen an average growth per year of 9.8% in children and families served. Also over that time, over 200 individuals served by our ministry have received salvation through Jesus Christ!

2015

IMPACT // From the 2015 ABCH Annual Report, the scope of the ministry is more varied and far-reaching than ever before:

  • 5,762 individuals are served
  • 70 women and children are served through Family Care
  • 5,091 people are helped by Pathways Professional Counseling
  • Camp of Champions hosts over 700 at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center—the largest Camp ever

Also under Rod's leadership in 2015, an exciting and aggressive vision plan is presented and voted for approval that will shape the ministry's direction through 2020.

As an example of the level of growth of the ministry, Birmingham foster care has seen an expansion from 1 home with a set of twins in 1995 to 90 homes and and 143 foster children over the past year serviced by ABCH.

This video briefly describes the ministry's impact on the life of Dana Watson—a child who grew up in the care of ABCH in Mobile and now serves as our Regional VP of South Alabama.

2016

ABCH BIRTHDAY // February 14, 2016 was the 125th Anniversary of the original charter issued by the state of Alabama to the Louise Short Baptist Widows' and Orphans' Home, now Alabama Baptist Children's Homes & Family Ministries!

All throughout this year, we will be celebrating this benchmark year for our ministry. See our 2016 calendar to stay up-to-date on events happening around the state!

We want to continue the visions of those like John W. Stewart and Paul Miller, by shining "little lights" into the hearts of children and families with the love of Christ. Whether through Campus Care, Foster Care, Family Care, Counseling, or diverse educational events and services, we pray that God would enable us to provide what is needed to restore children and families to hope and wholeness in Jesus Christ!
